JULIE BUCKNER | CREATIVE DIRECTOR & OWNER

Julie brings unique experience and a full suite of skills in innovation, marketing, and management to her clients, company, and community. Ever an entrepreneur, interior design is her third career.

Julie spent more than twenty years working in policy communications and political consulting at the national, state, and local level, with a specialty in California. Later, she founded a yoga studio and school. There she developed a bespoke teacher training program and supported a thriving, connected community. For decades, her finger has been on the pulse of the country’s preoccupation with its political system and, perhaps paradoxically, Americans’ fascination with yoga practice and philosophy. Cultivating change, bringing balance, and nurturing beauty has always been her life's work.

Julie’s love of antiques, furniture, art, rugs, textile, tableware, fine linen, fashion (especially shoes!), and decor was passed down through her family’s matriarchal lineage. She scavenges for new and vintage pieces finding treasures. Julie's work honors the architectural intent of each space and reflects the unique individual needs of her clients. She's not wedded to one particular look or style; she's curating, inventing, and reinventing.

Free creatively from design convention, she works intuitively, instinctively, and authentically. Always learning and growing, she’s inspired by culture, visual arts, music, literature, history, landscape, food, and wellness. She encourages clients in exploration of their design, in alignment with their lifestyles and aspirations. Her work is notable for its welcoming, warm, comfortable, calm, accessible, and affordable design for real life.

Julie’s developed a special niche in the design business: she often plays the role of an owner's representative – coaching busy, stressed, and overwhelmed clients through their design/build project with understanding and respect for the construction process. As such, she's become trusted partner and collaborator with builders, landscape designers, makers, real estate agents, and trades – bringing spaces to life.

She's a lifelong student of yoga, a yoga teacher, hiker, gardener, cook, and mother of two amazing young men. Julie grew up in Los Angeles, and has lived in New York, Washington DC, Berkeley, and Sonoma County. She’s recently remodeled and now settled into a classic 1905 California Bungalow in historic downtown Petaluma.
